From Mumbai Streets to European Stock Car Royalty

The path of an Indian racing driver in international motorsport traditionally follows the well-trodden single-seater route: karting in India, Formula 4 in Britain or Europe, and an eventual pursuit of Formula 3 or GT endurance racing. Mumbai-born racer Advait Deodhar chose an entirely different and radically uncompromising path. Today, Deodhar stands as the first and only Indian driver to win a NASCAR-sanctioned race in Europe, establishing himself as a formidable contender in the premier EuroNASCAR PRO division of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series.

Born and raised in Mumbai, Deodhar began his competitive motorsport journey competing in Indian domestic single-seaters, clinching podiums in the JK Tyre National Racing Championship and the MRF Formula 1600 series between 2012 and 2014. Facing the astronomical budgets required to climb the European formula ladder, Deodhar pivoted toward stock car racing. Relocating to Europe, he secured his debut in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series in 2018, immersing himself in the visceral, raw world of 400-horsepower V8 stock cars.

The Historic Breakthrough at Brands Hatch

The defining moment of Deodhar's racing career arrived at the iconic Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in the United Kingdom during the 2021 American SpeedFest. Competing in the EuroNASCAR 2 division with CAAL Racing, Deodhar started from pole position and produced a faultless masterclass under intense pressure. Defending fiercely against seasoned European stock car veterans, he crossed the start-finish line to capture a historic maiden victory, becoming the first Indian in history to win a NASCAR race anywhere in the world.

The breakthrough at Brands Hatch proved that Deodhar's car control and tactical awareness were suited to the brutal demands of stock car racing. Unlike high-downforce single-seaters equipped with electronic paddle shifters, power steering, and traction control, a NASCAR Whelen Euro Series machine is purely mechanical. Drivers must wrestle a 1,225-kilogram chassis powered by a 5.7-litre naturally aspirated Chevrolet V8, utilizing a four-speed manual H-pattern dog-box transmission and iron disc brakes without anti-lock assistance.

Stepping Up to EuroNASCAR PRO with Academy Motorsport

Following his sustained success in EuroNASCAR 2, Deodhar made the logical step up to the premier EuroNASCAR PRO division, signing with Italian outfit Academy Motorsport / Alex Caffi Motorsport to drive the number 1 Ford Mustang. In EuroNASCAR PRO, competition reaches elite heights, with former Formula 1 drivers, Le Mans winners, and international touring car champions populating the grid.

In EuroNASCAR PRO, Deodhar immediately made an impression in the Challenger Trophy—a dedicated classification for elite non-factory professional drivers. Battling on challenging circuits like Valencia, Vallelunga, Zolder, and Most, the Indian driver combined aggressive racecraft with consistent tyre preservation. His ability to trail-brake deep into apexes while managing rear tyre thermal degradation allowed him to seize the lead of the Challenger Trophy standings, proving his capability against Europe's best.

Dual Careers and the American Dream

What makes Deodhar's achievement even more extraordinary is his professional reality outside the cockpit. Without the backing of multi-crore industrial family wealth, Deodhar works full-time as an international yacht charter broker with TJB Super Yachts in London. Balancing high-stakes commercial yacht transactions with the grueling physical fitness required to pilot a 400-horsepower stock car across 30-lap European races demands remarkable discipline.

Deodhar remains resolute in his ultimate ambition: becoming the first Indian driver to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series in the United States. His journey from local go-kart tracks in Maharashtra to the winner's circle of European NASCAR proves that passion, self-belief, and unconventional career decisions can carve out a unique legacy in global motorsport.
